Turning aspiration into employability for youth with ZERO privilege
When you got a job and settled down, did you ever imagine having a profoundly transformative impact on someone else’s life?
Not like Steve Jobs with the iPhone, but like a high school teacher who had an indelible influence on a student’s life? Or like someone who gives a poor kid their first full-time job?
After passing through the unending hoops of social achievement — doing well in school, college, landing your first job, perhaps raising a family — you probably figured that you had no time for transforming other people’s lives. But you secretly wished you could, somehow.
For as little as $25/month, FEA gives middle-class professionals like yourself the opportunity to transform India, one youth at a time.
FEA is a movement that responds to the little voice at the back of our minds:
How are YOU making a meaningful impact in this world?
Through its FREE, year-long educational program that makes disadvantaged youth in India self-reliant and employable, FEA is transforming the lives of about 31,000 disadvantaged youth every year across North India, one of the most populous and underprivileged regions of the entire world. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Bihar — we have 110+ branches in all of these states. Many of our students have more than doubled their incomes. Researchers from Stanford are studying this impact on the lives of FEA graduates and their families through an RCT.
Watch the transformational story of Rohit Sikarwar, an FEA graduate who became a successful photographer here.
Would you like to help transform one such youth’s life and get the deep, lifelong satisfaction of having played your part? Sponsoring the education of one student, for as little as Rs 1900/$25 per month can all the difference between a youth who faces a life of poverty, violence and indignity and someone like Rohit who can lead a life of respect, learning and growth. You can read even more success stories like Rohit’s here.
When our founder, Deepak Chopra, was a teenager, he would walk through an urban slum in Delhi to reach his school bus stop.
Unbridled poverty, with people cooking, eating, and living their lives on the side of the streets. The misery and loss of human dignity brought about by poverty stuck in Deepak’s mind. He made a personal commitment to never forget what he had experienced, and to help solve this immense problem.
Unlike a conventional school or training institute, FEA takes ZERO money from our students.
We also do NOT give them money: we enable them to make money to lead an independent life in whatever career they choose. To put it in terms of the old saying, we do not give our students fish for the day. We train them to fish for life.
Developed in consultation with educational experts from Stanford and the Indian School of Business specifically for the Indian context,
our employability curriculum has three pillars:
- English language skills appropriate for the white-collar workplace – because English is the single greatest predictor of job quality in India
- Personal life skills like perseverance, discipline, resilience and collaboration – because India’s education system has little room for these skills that have a 20x ROI than another school subject
- Online courses from global standard institutions – because learning should be both accessible and free, especially for those without resources but with unbridled passion for lifelong learning.
The total cost for the entire one-year duration of this life-changing program is about $300 per student — funded so far by Deepak. This amount pays rents, salaries, and computers, one for each student in the classroom.
We plan to double the scale of the program and transform the lives of 60,000 students annually.
So here’s the upshot: we are giving YOU the opportunity to play your role in this movement.
Would you like to live your well-earned life in some peace, some satisfaction at having played your part? If so, we invite you to become an FEA Ambassador and sponsor the education of one disadvantaged youth at a cost of $25 or Rs. 1900/month.
With this small investment, you will be able to mentor the student whom your generosity benefits and watch them grow their wings — a ROI that you can feel, understand and converse with.
The little voice at the back of your mind will have an answer — one life transformation at a time.
